Frosting Recipe!!!

Hi guys, Today I will be telling you about a frosting recipe I tried on my cupcakes on Wednesday. I sadly do not have a cupcake recipe for you, because I used a funfetti box mix. I could have made my own cupcakes, but I was being lazy. So here is the recipe.

You will need:
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened
about 2 tablespoons of milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Mix powdered sugar and butter. stir in vanilla and milk; beat until smooth and of spreading consistency. You can also add food coloring if you want. Frosts a 13x9 inch cake or fills and frosts two 8 or 9 inch cake layers. I used the portion to frost around 24 cupcakes. This recipe is from Betty Crocker's Cookbook.
Thanks for reading this quick blog post. If you try this tweet me a picture. @oliviaoistad

Summer reads!!!

Hi guys, long time no talk! I have been very busy over the first month of summer. I really missed blogging and sharing with you my life. Today I will be telling you what I have been reading this summer. I have only read two books, but right now I am reading two books.

The first book I read was Love that Boy by Ron Fournier. This book is about parenting, but I didn't know that till I started reading it. (I picked it up at the library because it had a eye catching cover.) The book is about a young boy Tyler, who has Aspergers. His dad is trying to understand him and get to know him, because Tyler is not interested in anything this dad wants to do. The father son duo ends up bonding through road tripping to see presidents and historical monuments. I really liked this book. I would recommend it if you're looking for something to read.

The next book I read is We are all made of Molecules. Despite the name of the book, this book is not about science. The main characters are both in ninth grade. Ashley, is a popular, mean girl, and Stewart is a "nerd" who loves school. Stewart's mom died of cancer and Ashley's parents got divorced. The two parents, Stewart's dad and Ashley's mom start dating. That's when both kids lives get flipped upside down. They two family's move in together to start a family. Stewart is exicted to have a sister, and Ashley is devastated that the "nerd" is moving into her house. That's all I will say, because I don't want to spoil too much. This was one of my favorite books I have ever read. You will love it.

For the last book, this book I am still reading, but it is called Breaking Vegan. No I am not going vegan, actually this book is about the opposite of going vegan. Breaking Vegan is about Jordan Younger overcoming her eating disorder, Orthorexia. Orthorexia is "an obsession with eating the right   foods"(breaking vegan page 9). During hurt eating disorder she becomes vegan, and quickly becomes obsessed with the idea of eating healthy and being skinny. This book is about her journey from her eating disorder too having balance in her life. She also kept a blog while this was happening called The Blonde Vegan ( now known as The Balanced Blonde).

That is all the books I will be talking to you about today. I hope you enjoyed my post. I am sorry I have been gone so long. Leave me a comment telling me what your favorite book is.

Birchbox!!!

For my birthday, I got four months to birchbox, a subscription service. If you haven't heard of birchbox it is a beauty box that you sign up for and you get samples of products each month. You can customize your box so it is just right for you, for example if you have oily skin you can enter that into the survey you take when you sign up. I decided to make this blog post a little bit differently. I decided instead of typing all about these products, I would tell and show you these new products. Watch this video to see me trying these products out. I hope you enjoy the video and if you want to buy a birchbox you can find it at this link. https://www.birchbox.com/

I know that the video was not the best, but I hope you enjoyed something different on my blog today. I am trying to keep posting regularly, but that might not always work. Thanks for reading!

My favorite healthy snacks!

Today I will be talking to you about eating healthy. I know the healthy lifestyle is not for everyone, but it is important to try and eat healthy sometimes. I am not saying you are fat and you need to lose weight, you are beautiful just the way you are. I am just trying to help inspire you to make healthy choices. Many factors play a part in eating healthy or eating junk food. For example if you had a bad day maybe you eat a bag of chips. It is okay to eat "bad" food sometimes, Everyone has off days. I will be telling you how to eat relatively healthy. ***Also note that I am not a nutritionist or a health expert.

My personal favorite is a healthy smoothie, now it is important to be aware that not all smoothies are the healthiest. Even smoothies from smoothie stores like Jamba Juice can be packed full of added sugar and artificial sweeteners. It is best to make homemade smoothies, if you want it to be better for you. I have a recipe on my blog. http://oliviaoistadblogs.blogspot.com/2016/02/smoothie-recipe.html There are many types of smoothies you can try.
Another healthy snack is Skinny pop. You are probably wondering what that is. It is popcorn that has lower calories and simpler ingredients to bring give you a "healthier" popcorn. I understand It is not super healthy, but compared to a bag of potato chips it is better. These snack ideas are if you are trying to become healthier.

Another quick and easy snack is trail mix. This snack is perfect for if your on the go and need an easy, but healthy snack. Trail mix can also unhealthy if it is more chocolate then nuts. I understand a little sweetness, but don't go overboard. My favorite is a kind from Trader Joe's, it has cashews, almonds and dried cranberries.

Thank you for reading today's post. I am sorry I haven't posted in a while. I was having some problems trying to upload a video, but don't worry that post should be coming soon.
Thanks for reading!

Books you need to read!

Hello, for today's post I will be incorporating more with my reading/writing side of my blog. Yesterday I posted about starting a journal. If you missed that post click here. Today I will be talking to you about books you should read. I will be talking about books from different genres and books for mostly teens.

The first book you should read is The Book Thief. I read this book in English this year, and I loved it. It is a historical fiction book about the Holocaust. This book shows a different point of view, that is not from a Jewish point of view. It shows true compassion and if you like sad books then this is a book for you. The book thief is 584 pages long. I know it is very long, but is such a good book. This book really opened my eyes on the holocaust. It is tragic, but a very powerful book.
The next book I would recommend is if you like realistic fiction, or if you like some romance.  If you do then A Bend in the Road is perfect. This book was a good book if you like any books by Nicholas Sparks. One of my favorites is the Last Song. A Bend in the Road is a emotional book with a hint of mystery. The book is about Miles Ryan trying to find out who was the driver of the car that killed his wife. This book is not too long with 341 pages.
The next book is a mix of science fiction and a mix of realistic fiction. The Selection is like the bachelor meets the princess diaries. If you have not seen the bachelor that's okay, but the princess diaries??? What was your childhood like???

Moving on to the book, The Selection is about America entering in a competition to try and be the next princess and to marry Prince Maxon. The selection is a big deal for everyone. America recently broke up with her boyfriend, so she is unsure about doing this. She is chosen to be one of thirty five girls to go to the castle and try to win Maxon's heart. I love this book, and the best part is it is a whole series. The last book was released last week. This book has 336 pages, but I read this book in one weekend it was that good. I think is is my favorite book ever. I love all the other books I mentioned, but this is my favorite.

Thank you for reading my blog posts, leave a comment if you want more posts like this.

Starting a journal!

Hello everyone! Today I will be talking to you about starting a personal journal. I think journals are a great idea to keep track of your life, and where you are in your life.
Step 1: Find a journal that will work or use a old notebook. I am all for recycling so you can totally use an old science notebook or even loose leaf paper. You can be creative with designing your journal and making it your own.
Step 2: Figure out how you want to journal. You could have your journal be about your experiences/memories, or it could be about your daily life.It is really up to you to decide which way you want your journal to be. There are also many more options for journal ideas, so if you want you can research some of them.
Step 3: Decide how often you want to write. I know it can get hard with school or work, but it is really relaxing to journal and it helps you take your mind off of things. I would recommend journaling as much as possible. I try to write in my journal everyday, but it usually ends up being every other day. Find a journaling schedule that works for you.
Step 4: Remember this is for fun! This isn't like a school assignment that is due on Monday. Do this for your self. I think journals are also a good way to rant about any problems you are having, or it is a way lift yourself back up.
Thank you for reading about my tips to start a journal. If you like this and would like more posts like this, please leave a comment telling me. Also make sure to follow my twitter for updates about this blog.  my Twitter

Mascara review

Today I will be reviewing a product I recently tried out. It is the Tarte lights, camera, flashes mascara. I love mascara so I was very excited to try a new mascara. Mascara is a great product if you don't like to wear a lot of makeup or if you want a natural look. It is also a good thing to try if your just starting out with makeup. Mascara really makes your eyes pop and it makes you look awake, if you have to wake up early like me. This certain mascara has two steps. The wand (or the brush) has two different types of bristles, for two different steps. The first step is to comb the shorter, denser side of the wand through your eyelashes. The next step is to apply the longer, firmer bristles through your lashes.
Do you see a difference in the bristles? It is hard to see in the picture, but it also says one and two on part of the wand. It is hard to explain what I'm trying to say. I think this mascara is a great mascara to try. It does not flake and it also stays all day. It adds length and volume. I give this mascara 9 out of ten stars. The one thing I do not like is the price, very expensive. Other then that I think this is a good product.
Now I will tell you a tip I have learned through pinterest. I have learned that if your mascara is drying out put it in a cup full of warm water for five minutes. This makes the mascara feel like it's brand new. It becomes smooth and easy to apply. I had the cup about three quarters of the way full. I don't know if it matters how full the cup is. If anyone can tell me the science behind this I would love to know why this happens/works.
I hope this post helped you learn more about mascara and I hope you liked my review.
Thanks,
Olivia

Spring Outfit Ideas

I am so exicted for todays post. I have spent lots of time planning this post. I hope you enjoy it. I am posting outfits I have worn this spring so far. I hope you like them and get inspiration from this.

For outfit number one, it was a sort of rainy day. It was also sort of cold for spring. I wore a tanktop with a jean jacket over it. I think the jacket adds a lot to the outfit. I wore leggings with it to dress done the outfit. I paired my sperry's with the outfit to add a hint of summer to this outfit.
tank top-Aeropostle
Jean jacket- Hollister
Leggings- Target
Shoes- Sperry

For outfit number to it was also colder then usual. We had a few days of bad weather here. I wore a plain white shirt and jeans. This is a pretty typical outfit for me. To spice up the outfit I added a floral scarf. I think it was a simple spring outfit. In this picture you can't see my shoes, but I am wearing my Sanuk's. If you have never heard of them they are sandals that have yoga mats as the sole of the sandal. These sandals are very comfortable and great for if your doing a lot of walking, but you don't want your feet to get hot in tennis shoes.
Shirt- Forever 21
Jeans- Hollister

The next outfit is for when it is warmer outside. I wore a white sweater, this is a nice sweater for the in between winter and spring season. It is light and flowy. I also wore pink flowy shorts that have lace trim on the bottom. These shorts are surprisingly comfortable. I wore my sparkly sandals to complete this look.
Shirt- Target
Shorts- T.J. Maxx
Sandals- Kohl's

That is all for my blog post today. I hope you enjoyed this post! Thanks so much for following me on my blogging journey. I hope you enjoy this blog.

Olivia

My favorites

Today I will be posting some of my favorites from this month. These products and items I have been enjoying lately. Let me start off by saying that I don't wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. I keep my face natural with mascara and sometimes a little dusting of powder. I also don't really do much with my hair other then brush it. I am just letting you know I'm not a beauty expert. These are just the products I like to use to help me look my best.

For my hair I love to use the Wet Brush after I get out of the shower, I also use this brush when my hair is dry. It is a great brush to use to remove any tangles or knots that are in your hair. The brushes can be small, big, they can be square or they can have a more of an oval shape. I would highly recommend a wet brush.
When my hair is dry I put in Oribe dry conditioner. You are probably thinking what is dry conditioner. Like dry shampoo, which I'm sure you have heard of, you apply to your hair when it is dry to add texture and volume. It gives you great texture and smells incredible!!!! I use this everyday to give my flat hair some volume, it also makes your hair really soft.

My favorite skin care product at the moment right now is the Aveeno Clear Complexion face wash. This cleanser smells amazing, makes your skin very soft, and helps with any little breakouts. This cleanser really helps me relax after a long day. I use this twice a day, but you can use it whenever you want. It is a foaming cleanser, so it is also really fun to wash off.
Now onto my one favorite makeup favorite. I love the Covergirl super sizer mascara. This mascara adds length and volume. It is my favorite mascara ever!!! I have tried tons of mascara since I have started wearing makeup a couple of years ago. This is my favorite mascara. It is also an affordable option, that you can find at any drugstore. I highly recommend this if you don't naturally have perfect eyelashes, like me.
And for my last favorite it will be a very simple thing that has become very popular over the last few years. It is the very simple EOS lip balm.If you don't know what this is, EOS stands for Evolution Of Smooth. These lip balms have an Easter egg like shape. They come in many different flavors and smells. I personally love the lemon smell, It also has SPF 30. The only problem is that the shape does not fit into your pocket. Other then that I would highly recommended getting a EOS.

That will be it for today's blog post. I hope you liked it. If you have any product recommendations leave them in the comments. Also make sure you follow my twitter for updates about me and this blog. My twitter is @oliviaoistad

My Florida Trip 2016!

Hey everyone! I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, I have been on vacation. Today I will be telling you about my vacation. I went to Florida over spring break. My family and I did a lot of fun things over that time.
This is a picture of one of the beautiful sunsets from the beach.
For the first few days of our trip, we stayed on the beach and didn't really do much. The days were filled with sunshine and swimming. Lets just say that I may have gotten a little sunburned. We also had lots of great food on vacation. My favorite restaurant was the Clear Sky Cafe in Clearwater. We went there for breakfast and I had delicious French Toast. We stayed at Saint Pete Beach for three nights, then we headed to Clearwater. In Clearwater we stayed in a cute retro motel called Frenchy's Oasis Motel. It was very quiet because there is only 14 rooms. We almost had the pool to ourselves because most of the people there were older.
Over the trip we went to many different beaches. We stayed at Saint Pete Beach and Clearwater Beach, but we also went to Madeira Beach and Honeymoon Island State Park. My favorite was Madeira Beach, because there was not a lot of people. We also went to John's Pass before the beach. John's Pass is a boardwalk with cute shops.

In Clearwater there is the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. that is where Winter the dolphin from Dolphin Tale lives. We visited the Aquarium and went on a boat ride and learned more about sea life. It was very crowed around Winter, so I couldn't get a good picture of her. Here is a picture I found of her off the internet.
I had a great vacation in Florida and I hope you enjoyed this blog post.

Olivia

My life update

Today I'm posting about my life. I will be talking about what I've been doing or what I'm going to do soon. Today is my sisters birthday. I got her a tea cup set, because she loves tea. Here is a picture of the cup. Tonight we are watching the pretty little liars episode from yesterday. I am leaving for Florida in less then six days. I am so exicted, I will post some outfits from my trip and a few pictures.
In my weekly life updates I will be having a section for my favorites. This week my favorites have been the app color therapy, Ellie and Jared on YouTube, and Pinterest.

First I will tell you about the app color therapy. My science teacher recommend my class to get the app if we needed someone thing to do. Recently adult coloring books have been a big trend. This app is a virtual coloring book. It is very relaxing. Here is a coloring page I filled in.

My next favorite is Ellie and Jared on YouTube. Their YouTube channel is a vlog channel about their family. It is really fun to watch.
Here is a link to their YouTube channel.https://m.youtube.com/user/stylebyellie

My last favorite is Pinterest. I used to be obsessed with Pinterest then I forgot about it. Recently I got the app again and I love it. Pinterest has so many different things. From fitness to makeup, it feels like everything is on Pinterest.
